Hey guys, and welcome back to my channel. So in today's video, I'm gonna be reviewing a brand
that reached out to me,
and I've never tried anything from them.
But when I was roaming their website,
they just had a few really funky and quirky pieces.
So I thought, why not put a video together
and share some of them with you guys?
So they're called Modokawa.
I think I'm pronouncing that right.
I'll write it on the screen.
And they've also very kindly given me a 20% off discount code,
which is just my channel name, Vanto,
but I'll also link it down below and put it on screen
so you guys can use that if you like any of the pieces
that you're seeing.
But as usual, everything will be linked down below
in the order that I tried on,
along with my own measurements and sizes that I'm wearing.
So you can use me as a guide if you would like to.
But that being said, let's get to it.
I tried to give this video a bit of a theme.
So I've gone for kind of funky work wear,
just because I feel like so often in a workplace,
people stick to like black and white or really safe outfits.
But as long as they're modest and, you know,
they fit the dress code of the company,
why not jazz it up a bit?
So I've gone for kind of some funky office wear.
So the first outfit I'm gonna show you,
you can kind of see it.
So I'll start with the simple stuff.
I've got this nice gray pencil skirt.
Now, what I loved about this is one, the ruching.
So it's not, it's kind of got like a little bit
of a forgiving waistline.
And then this strap here goes round the waist
and ties around this loop here.
So it almost, it means it's kind of adjustable.
So it is just a zip up,
but you can then cinch it in that little bit
and just like give that lovely kind of hourglass look.
And I also think gray is such a lovely color
because black can kind of just all blend in
when you wear like too much of it in your outfit,
but a dark charcoal gray like this
can just really lighten an outfit if you wear it with color.
So I'm gonna style that piece with this amazing shirt.
Now I fell in love with the colors on this.
Now my main thought process was this will go incredibly well
with that green leather skirt I got a couple weeks ago now
from North Beach Leather.
And just look at the sleeves on it.
It's kind of got these bell sleeves
and it's just got gorgeous colors in it.
So I also brought down my green leather skirt.
So I just thought that together
is gonna be an incredible look.
But I'll try it with the gray skirt first
just because I feel like that's a bit more understated
and will work very well together.
And then if you're feeling brave,
why not match a shirt like this
with one of the bold colors in it?
It's a win-win.
Now this shirt did come with a little vest top
to go underneath just because it is obviously mesh.
So at least you don't have to worry
about having your own kind of tank top.
So that's always useful.
But I also would probably just wear nude underwear under it.
So I'll try it both ways and we can see what it's,
see what it looks like.
This is what it looks like on.
And I didn't actually need to put the tank top
on underneath.
It's kind of, even though it's mesh,
it's also where the patterns are,
just not see-through at all.
So I think wearing nude under it just works perfectly.
So don't wear bright white under it
or any other kind of bold colors
because that will really show through the mesh.
But if you find like a good kind of skin tone bra,
no one would ever know.
So I absolutely love the shirt.
I think it would look better though
with a bold color skirt, either the green or the pink.
But the skirt itself on its own is lovely.
It's the most perfect work skirt.
So it's that color that will go with everything.
It's a lovely, comfortable fit.
So even on my curves, you know, it hugs me very nicely.
The only thing, I'm not actually sure on this tie.
So at the moment I'm tying it around the back,
but if I take it out,
I can actually tie it around the front maybe.
So it just has this little like opening here.
And so I could tie it around there
and then I have more to work with.
So maybe I'm meant to do that and like tie in a knot.
I feel like it's cute, but it almost isn't necessary.
Like the skirt itself is a beautiful fit.
So if I just like were to remove that,
it just looks very sleek with the ruching
and you don't even see that that has a little hole in,
but maybe I can put, I'll put charm on it
or something like that.
I'm only kidding, of course.
But the skirt's a lovely length.
It has a little slit in it.
Oh, it's at the front there.
I was going to say, I was feeling insane then.
I was like, I know it has a slit in it,
but where is it?
It's here.
That's actually a really nice placement of a slit
putting it on the thigh
because you don't have to worry about it being,
you know, too high at the back.
And I still have the full movement
that I need with a pencil skirt.
So very cute.
But I'll quickly swap this skirt for the green leather one
so we can see how it jazzes up the shirt.
It's crazy colorful, but this is such a look.
Like I, like this skirt is my new favorite skirt.
I'm sure most of you are aware.
But just look how well that matches with the shirt.
And I know the shirt is very, very bold,
but I actually think by, if you're going to go bold,
just go bold.
Like this is such a smart look,
but it's also incredibly like stylish.
So it's very like classy and suitable for the office
as long as you're allowed to wear color.
But damn, this is definitely more me.
Like I love the gray
and I'll jazz that gray up with other shirts,
but this shirt needed color.
So I think this, this is the look.
I can't wait to wear this.
Look at that.
Yes.
Love it.
Absolutely love it.
So the next thing I got is a t-shirt.
Now I fell in love with this t-shirt for one big reason.
The most of butterfly on the back.
Look at the colors in that.
It is just stunning.
Now the only thing I've noticed
is it's literally just like machine sewed on,
but not around the edge of the butterfly,
which I think almost, it doesn't do this justice.
Like what you want to do is like tack the edges
of the butterfly onto the shirt.
So it almost looks like it was embroidered onto the t-shirt,
but the actual patch is gorgeous.
And I don't think anyone's going to clock it.
And it's just got these like little ribbon tassels.
And then it has a smaller version of it on the front.
Like how lovely is that?
Now I do love a t-shirt,
but I like them to be a bit like different,
not just like bland.
And this is definitely it.
Like this with a pair of leggings
or even like tucked into jeans
is going to look so cute with a back like that.
See, I wouldn't wear it with a pencil leather skirt
like this, but I thought I would just show
exactly how it fits.
So as a t-shirt, it's just kind of a lovely normal fit.
It's not too big or too tight anywhere,
which is how I like my t-shirts.
So I probably would, yeah, like almost turn it into,
so it will be like loose up top,
but then I'll tie it in such a way
that it will be tight around the back.
Let me just move my hair out of the way
so you can actually see the beautiful butterfly.
Like look at that.
And I love the orange,
but they do actually do this shirt in loads of colors.
So if this one isn't your vibe,
but you love the embroidery,
they do do quite a few options.
Did get one non-clothing item.
Well, I say non-clothing.
It's a pair of tights, so it still is clothing.
Not quite sure how to style these.
So I'll have to go like throw something else on.
I'm intrigued to see how they fit
because they weren't very expensive,
but I absolutely fell in love with, look at this.
They've got, oh, they've already, oh, that's a shame.
That must have been in their packaging or something.
Don't know if you guys can see.
There's like a, already like a,
sorry, my hair is blocking that.
There's like a little hole in them there.
They've got like a little pull
and I've literally just taken them out of the bag.
So that wasn't there before.
That was there before is what I meant.
But look at the butterflies.
They're just kind of these printed blue butterflies,
which I thought could be really cute with the right outfit.
Like they're just really, really sweet.
Oh, can't believe they've got a hole in.
I'm terrible with tights.
Like I put holes in them so quickly.
So I'm like really careful,
especially if I have to spend like,
I fall in love with, you know,
the quirky tights from like Calcedonia.
I think I'm pronouncing that right.
Cause they do really funky ones.
But when you have to pay like 20 plus pounds
for a pair of tights,
you can only wear them once
before you make a hole in them.
It's just like, no.
So I need to try some of those like indestructible brands.
So I wasn't sure what to expect with these tights,
but they're actually a really unusual material.
Well, I say unusual.
They just feel like a higher quality
to any of my other tights.
Like I can't really explain it.
They must be made of something a bit different,
but they fit beautifully,
which I'm so happy about
because they're a one size pair of tights.
And it was like a miracle when I figured out that wearing,
cause when you buy tights,
you can get like small, medium, large ones
or medium to large.
And I always am a small in like my clothes.
And so I was always like,
I'll just like wedge into size small tights
and the crutch would always be down here.
And then I started wearing medium sized tights
and my life was changed.
They actually fit.
And so if you're watching this
and you're always struggling
with like your tights falling down
or the crutch being really low,
size up, it will like change your life.
Like I really recommend it.
But I was a bit worried
that they might be quite hard to style
and that like completely plain tights would look better.
But I think the butterflies,
they're really like just kind of small and spaced out.
So I don't even think you see them.
They're not that obvious.
And I've styled it just all with black,
but I feel like if I put maybe some more blue in my outfit,
like even if like I wore like a blue belt or a blue bag,
it would just bring out the butterflies a bit more.
And then I think they're really fun.
So next I got a pinstripe suit in navy.
Now I was expecting better things.
So this one came to nearly a hundred pounds
and it doesn't quite feel worth it,
in my very honest opinion.
But let's see what the fit is like.
So it's a bit too,
it almost feels like I'm doing a Gomez Adams fancy dress.
Cause I feel like he always rocked the pinstripe suit,
but it's got this asymmetrical hem, which I liked.
And the red pocket square kind of makes me feel
like this is a bit fancy dressy.
So I'm gonna like fix that.
And I'm gonna see if I can make this look
a bit more kind of bougie when it's on.
But it did come with trousers
and miraculously these trousers are absolutely stretchless,
but they fit me like they were made for me
or potentially half a size too small for me,
but that's okay.
But they are just these like almost
like three quarter length ones.
So I'm gonna put it all on and you guys can tell me
if it's a vibe or whether it's like not a good look
and looks like I've just pulled it out my fancy dress box.
So this is what the trousers looked like.
Now I've matched it just with a navy vest dog.
Well, I thought it was navy,
but actually when I put it with navy, it's a lot more blue,
but that's kind of, I think it works in a way,
but it might look better
with kind of a white crisp top instead.
But to be honest, even though it,
like I judged it for being a little bit cheap feeling
for the price, it is very well-made
like in terms of the tailored fit,
because normally trousers don't, they can't fit me.
You know, like they're not made for the curvy figure,
but these aren't half bad.
Like considering these are high-waisted
so they can go around my waist
and they can cope with my hips and butt measurements.
They're a little bit tight on my thigh,
but nothing too tight.
And then they're kind of just like shin length.
So I think I would prefer them a slightly bit,
like a tiny bit longer, but I think it kind of works.
I think.
And then if I put it with the jacket,
I think the jacket is more about the boyfriend cut.
So I almost feel like styling it
like over my shoulder like this,
cause the trousers are lovely and like tailored to my body.
The jacket, I do have, I'm like, I'm not overly tall,
but I have very lanky limbs.
Like I have long legs and long arms,
a bit like an orangutan arms.
That's what we call them in my family.
So like jackets and coats never fit the length of my arms.
It's just like an ongoing, ongoing issue.
Right, none of these aren't buttoned.
So this, I might be here a while.
I might just do up one button on each
so that it doesn't take me 6 billion years,
but yeah, I think the red pocket square needs to go,
but it is giving Gomez Adams and actually I'm here for it.
So I watch like the Adams family every month.
I just absolutely love it.
I don't, I think it's cause they're just such a quirky
family and low key the Adams family house
would be my dream house.
Like I wouldn't quite have it the exact same decor,
but I just love it.
It's so cool.
So this is the jacket.
Now I'm not going to lie,
the asymmetrical hem is killing me.
I don't have OCD, but I feel like,
I feel like I do wearing this.
So my, it's not asymmetrical enough.
It just looks off.
So I might rehem that and just like make it the right length
and let's also just take, oh, it's removable.
So that's fine.
So this is, this is what we're dealing with.
Does it look like I mean business or party fancy dress?
I think it might be business.
I think, I think it's workable.
And especially if I didn't have the jacket on
and just like had it almost like an accessory,
this means business.
I just think I kind of want a bit more tailored of a jacket.
Although from the back, it does it lovely.
So maybe I just need to, maybe I will re-tailor the jacket.
So the buttons are here, which are like way too big for me,
but I might almost turn it into like a wraparound jacket,
relocate the buttons to my actual waist size
and then rehend the base
and it'll be something like that, like that.
And then I think, I think I get away with it.
It's kind of fun.
Up next, we have the dresses.
Now, the reason I got this one in mint,
cause this is normally a color I would never step foot in,
is I found a pair of trousers in a charity shop
that unfortunately didn't survive.
They had like two bad holes in.
So you guys never got to see them,
but they were mint color.
And I was really pleasantly surprised
at how nice they looked,
because it's a color I have literally
not allowed in my wardrobe,
because I just thought, oh, it's not my color.
You know, it just won't go with my skin tone.
So I put these trousers on, fell in love with the color
and I've now been looking for some mint pieces,
but I've instantly got regret
because it's just not my color.
Maybe in trousers I could pull it off,
but this is like, oh dear.
It's very Chanel and it's gorgeous.
It's pearly and it's fluffy and it's very high quality.
Like it feels amazing, but this just isn't it, is it?
The sleeves, the color, it's just,
I'm not gonna pull it off.
Whereas my best friend Jodie,
she'd probably look incredible in this.
So this might go her way,
but I'll put it on for you guys anyway,
and you can tell me if I'm wrong,
but I think maybe I need just like small amounts of mint
and that's how I pull it off, not a whole dress.
And I'd like to just let you guys know
that it's about 30 degrees in England today
and I'm about to try on a woollen dress for you guys.
Like if that's not love, I don't know what is.
Like look how furry this is.
Let's see what it looks like.
So this is how this one looks and I don't actually hate it.
Like the color of it, I think I can get away with.
It's the style of it that isn't quite my usual style.
Like it is very kind of vintage Chanel and I do love that,
but it's also giving kind of stylish grandma.
But I kind of, I can't tell if I'm loving it or hating it.
And I think the longer I wear it, the more I love it.
But let me know what you think.
I love the length of it.
I love the fabric.
It's such a like soft, fluffy fabric.
And I think when it gets a little bit colder
and we cross into autumn or even like coming into spring
when it's like really bright outside, but cold,
this could be a really nice like crossover outfit.
I mean, it is very like classy and smart.
It's just whether it's my style, but love the length of it.
I like the little slit.
I mean, I think it fits nicely.
I wish it was a tiny bit more tailored around my waist.
So it's a little bit big around my midsection,
but it kind of, it sits fine.
I just, I think I have more flattering dresses
in my wardrobe, but I don't have anything like this.
So I like that it's different.
I'm just trying to work out.
Is it something I'll wear?
But let me know what you think and be brutally honest
because yeah, it's something quite different
to anything I've got, but I kind of like it.
I think with the right hair and like makeup and accessories,
I get away with it.
I just have to style it.
The next dress I got is this gorgeous black and white number.
Now I absolutely love this one.
It's very smart.
And I love the like white accents on the black
and then look at that bow.
Like, is that just not the most incredible thing
you've seen?
Like I love that.
Now it does give me kind of like graduation vibes,
which is fine because even though I've already had
two graduations in my life, I will be having a third.
So I've graduated from my bachelor's and my master's degrees
and I'm now embarking on a PhD.
So I'm gonna need a very bougie dress in a couple of years
and I might as well start looking now.
So let's throw this one on and see what she looks like.
So this dress just is a dream in every way I can imagine.
Like it fits like a glove.
Like look at this fit.
Like this is incredible.
The slit as well.
Like it's just got that little bit of like sexiness,
but not too much.
And these white bits here, I just think, look,
it just gives like a, it exudes class, this dress.
I love it so much and the little like puffs.
Like it does very much look like a graduation dress,
but I also feel like I can get away with this kind of
just as a smart dress.
And then, oh my God, the bow.
Look at the back on this.
Is that not just incredible?
I feel like I need to just tack down the bow a little bit
because it kind of sticks out, but that's so easy to do.
And the white with the black, it's just incredible.
And the length of it is so perfect.
Like this is just amazing.
Like with a little graduation hat,
if I do wear it for that.
But also just as a, just a killer dress.
Like it's so smart, but so like different as well.
Now I will also say that these roll just a little bit.
So I want to just do a stitch.
So they don't like roll.
You can kind of see where my curves are.
They like to roll around a bit.
So I'm just going to like stitch them down.
Cause I think I'm pulling it maybe a little bit more
than it was originally planned to be pulled.
But the actual vibe, the long sleeves.
It's just, it's a yes.
Like in every way, this is,
it's just an incredible dress and the bow.
I absolutely love this one.
Look at that.
So incredible.
And I love that it's like straight across.
I think it's got such a nice neckline to it.
Like this is so fun.
Love it.
The last two things I got are coats.
Now I went for a tan and a waterproof one.
Now the waterproof one, I will show you guys.
It came in this lovely envelope.
So it was all folded very neatly
in this like clear black lined envelope thing.
I took it out to look at it
and I could not get it back into the envelope.
So it had beautiful packaging,
but I'm afraid I just can't replicate it.
I spent like 20 minutes trying to fold it back into this
and it just was not happening.
So apologies about that.
But the coat itself, it kind of looks like
you can get those like 2D looking handbags.
Gives me that sort of vibe.
But the reason behind this coat is I love it.
When I was younger,
I used to have this like clear waterproof and I loved it.
And I just thought this is a great way
of people still being able to see your outfit
without getting soaked by the rain.
And I also loved the idea of one day matching
with my daughter, if I am blessed with a daughter,
just because how cute would that be?
Because these are,
you can get like kids coats like this quite a lot,
but I haven't actually seen adult ones in a long time.
It's a really odd material though.
I don't know how long it will last.
It's almost like stretchy waterproof.
It feels like slightly thick cling film.
I'm just worried these poppers are gonna like rip it
and I don't want to rip it.
Oh yeah, okay.
It is exactly what I'm, my worry.
I just ripped that opening the popper.
So unfortunately the quality of this one
is just not, not there.
Let me see if I can get the rest of the poppers open
without ripping them.
But you can see when I go to pull it,
that one's fine, but the plastic stretches.
I'm trying to do this in such a way
that I don't rip anymore.
But look how much they're pulling on that plastic.
That's a bit of a bad design.
That ripped another one, just wasn't gonna open.
Oh dear.
Okay, well, I don't recommend this coat,
but it was gonna be very cute.
The cute thing about this coat
was gonna be that it could pop her up, but maybe.
Yeah, so two have broken, but two haven't.
So like the two that have broken are on the inside one.
So it doesn't actually show,
but just keep that in mind with this one
that unless it's like very cheap,
I wouldn't recommend buying it
just cause you'll be buying it
for it to potentially break on you.
Oh, but this is such a look.
Like this with like a bougie work dress under it
and torrential rain.
Like just imagine.
Like I wanna be that person in this coat.
I have no idea how to style this,
but we're gonna make it work.
It kind of feels, you know when you go to a theme park
and you can buy those like waterproofs in a bag,
it's got that vibe, but just more stylish.
Although I will just, like if you do love this one,
cause I'm not gonna lie, I'm actually loving it.
Just don't use the poppers.
Try and avoid doing those poppers and just use the belt
and maybe like one or two of the poppers
cause they're too strong and you can't pull them apart.
So you almost need to pull like,
get like a knife in between the popper and just popper it.
Don't like use the fabric like I did
cause it just rips, which is a shame.
But how fun is this?
You can actually see,
like you can see my outfit underneath it.
And we've got hair protection.
Okay, just, I feel like I'm from the fifties
and I'm here for it.
I love it.
I don't know if you can hear anything I'm saying
because of all the rustling of the moving.
I love this.
I know it's ripped, but I absolutely love this.
We've got to make it work.
We have got to make it work.
This is just too cool.
Next coat is giving Burberry.
So you can see this gorgeous lining
that goes all over the inside of it.
It's quite a nice thickness.
So it's on the thinner side,
but it's kind of nice to have some like coats that are thin.
Now, again, the orangutan arms are coming out to play.
So you can see it on this one a lot more obviously.
So if I pull those sleeves all the way down,
there is like that much gap,
but it kind of works because the line,
if I fold them up,
it looks like they're intentionally shorter.
So I'll just roll up my dress sleeves as well.
And then I think I get away with it, but let's do it up.
Now this one comes with quite a few accessories.
So it's got some belts for the arms
and then a belt for the waist as well.
But I've been looking for a tan coat
and I actually think this is the right shade of tan for me
because it's always hit or miss with my colorings
so I don't want it to be the same as my skin tone.
So I want it to be different enough, but also still tan.
So we've got these wrist ones here.
God, this is going to be funny to do on myself.
Da, da, da, da.
Let's have a go, take that through there.
Oh, they've got lovely buckles on them.
That's almost like a leather look buckle.
I don't know if you guys can see that.
Let me try and focus it.
It's like got detailing around the edging.
It's really nice.
I love little details like that.
So let me try and put, we're going to be here a while.
Okay, I'm not going to be able to do it up,
but you get the idea.
It's, it will look like that around the wrists
on both sides, which is a nice, just a nice little touch.
Okay, one done.
I'm going to do the other one, not on my body though.
So it just looks like that, which I think is quite sweet.
So let's do this belt.
Oh, the color is lovely though.
Let me turn it up.
And then the excess belt, because there's a lot of it,
I'm just going to wrap it around my waist again.
Oh my, we can double the belt buckle.
Look how wide that is.
There we go.
That's gone round my waist twice.
So that is not undoing.
But no, I absolutely love the color of this one.
It's got massive pockets, which is just a win.
This is just a little bit creased,
but it's all, it's got like the lovely kind of flaps
down here that I could almost like fold out somehow
if I wanted to like show off the lining a little bit more.
But now I think this is, this is a lovely coat.
It fits me beautifully.
Like I know the arms are a little bit short,
but overall I think that's a winning fit.
But how nice is that?
And the color is actually a lovely shade,
especially with my hair.
So I really love this one.
That's all I got for you guys today.
Thank you so much for watching.
I really hope you enjoyed today's video.
As usual, everything will be linked down below
in the order that I tried it on,
along with the sizes I'm wearing and my normal measurement.
So you can use me as a guide if you would like to.
And there is a discount code for you.
So if you wanna check out the rest of their website,
feel free to do so.
But please like and subscribe if you enjoyed.
I'll also link my other social media down below
as I do have a second channel,
which is all about rocks and geology,
which is what I'm up to with my PhD.
So if you're interested in that sort of thing,
do check that out.
But thank you again for watching
and hopefully I'll see you next time.
